Bordais wins Honda Indy Toronto Race 1

This weekend was a busy one for the Mistic IndyCar driver and his team, as all that hard work during the Verizon IndyCar Series finally paid off with a win!

After a bout of bad luck that can only be chalked up to gremlins (like the electrical issues that plagued the team during the last race), Sebastien Bourdais and the KVSH Racing team were ready for a fresh start.

The next stop on the Verizon IndyCar series schedule, dubbed “2inTO,” was a doubleheader on a 1.755-mile, 11-turn street circuit at Exhibition Place in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

Race #1

Starting the weekend off on Saturday by locking in the pole position, Bourdais’ first true IndyCar pole, the team was in high spirits.

Bourdais has now 32 career series pole positions, with 31 of those being prior to the merge in a CHAMP World Series car. This pole ties him with Michael Andretti for eighth place on the all-time list for pole positions.

The race was set to take place on Saturday, but inclement weather forced both races of the doubleheader to be held on Sunday.

Going into the first race of the day, Bourdais’ confidence was high. At the drop of the green flag, he maintained his position and never looked back.

He dominated the race, leading 58 of the 65 laps and breaking a tie with Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy for eighth on the all-time win list.

This marks Bourdais 32nd win in the series, and his first since the 2007 win that sealed his 4th series championship.

Race #2

Due to weather, the grid for Race 2 was set by points position rather than qualifying.

The race started out dry, but after a series of incidents during a midrace shower, race control made the decision to set the race on a time limit instead of the scheduled 65 laps.

Because of the changing weather, the decision of when to switch back to dry tires became the most important strategy move of the race. The team started in the 10th position and fought throughout the race to improve it, finishing the race in 9th.

The next stop in the Verizon IndyCar series is Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio on Sunday, August 3rd.
