We all know that celebrities are trendsetters, but some trends are better than others. Here’s one we at Mistic can get behind – numerous actors, musicians, and other celebs have been spotted using electronic cigarettes on set, around town, and on camera.
ECigs have even made it into the movie theaters. In the 2010 film The Tourist, Johnny Depp’s character uses an eCig on a train. “Do you mind me smoking?” he asks costar Angelina Jolie. “It’s not a real cigarette. It’s electronic. It delivers the same amount of nicotine, but the smoke is water vapor.”
Just like the rest of us, celebrities want to avoid the inconvenience of traditional cigarettes, and they’ve been happy to tell the world. According to Katherine Heigl, one of the biggest celeb proponents of eCigs, “You have no excuse now to smoke a real cigarette.”
She heaped on the praise during a 2012 appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, showing off her “bejeweled” eCig and even handing it over to the popular late-night host to let him try it out. An impressed Dave exclaimed, “This is remarkable!”
Another eCig fan is Star Wars legend Carrie Fisher, who has used eCigs in several notable TV appearances, including during a Today show interview with Anne Curry and a Comedy Central roast of Rosanne Barr.
Just like you use your Mistics at work, electronic cigarettes have proved popular with actors on set. Longtime smoker and regular eCig user Leonardo DiCaprio has been caught vaping between takes while filming Django Unchained and The Wolf of Wall Street. The actor has also been spotted using eCigs in restaurants and even while riding a bicycle.
Reality TV has joined in the fun as well - Bravo’s Real Housewives of Beverly Hills featured one character prominently using an eCig at an infamous Season 1 dinner party, and Jersey Shore stars Snooki and JWoww used their eCigs at a recent basketball game in Los Angeles.
As it turns out, celebrities use electronic cigarettes for the same reasons as the rest of us – eCigs are just more convenient and easier to use at work, while running errands, at restaurants, and with friends. Dozens of celebs have been photographed vaping in restaurants and clubs, in cars, on set, at the airport, and at sporting events.
Among the scores of eCig fans are Catherine Zeta-Jones, Mel Gibson, Robert Pattinson, Jeremy Piven, Michelle Rodriguez, Kate Moss, Alan Cumming, and Britney Spears, to name just a few.
