Los Angeles was the next stop on the Red Bull Global Rally Cross series schedule this weekend, and the SHRacing No. 07 team went into the weekend holding on to the championship lead.
Held at the Port of Los Angeles, the double-header took place on a temporary circuit that was largely tarmac. This was a significant difference from the mostly dirt courses that the cars see more often, and it presented a challenge to some teams.
Going into the heat races, Nelson Piquet, Jr. did not make it to the final after contact with the wall knocked him out, resulting in a trip to the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). The team struggled in the LCQ, failing to make it to the main event.
Sunday brought a new day and renewed energy for the HAUS team. During the semifinals, the race was abruptly stopped when contact with driver Steve Arpin forced Piquet and his team to pull out of the race.
The quick and efficient SHRacing team was able to repair the car in time to make one last shot to get into the finals, but the LCQ proved to have its ups and downs. Though Piquet was able to fight his way all the way up to 5th position, a local yellow caused trouble for him as he was passed by Bucky Lasek and lost his chance to make it to a final for the weekend.
After the weekend the team is #4 in the points chase going into the GRC series second-to-last stop in Seattle.
