What better place could there be for a nail-biting finish to the 2014 Red Bull Global RallyCross season than Las Vegas! Going into the final round, there were four potential championship contenders - Joni Wilman was leading in points, followed by Ken Block, Scott Speed, and SH Racing/HAUS driver Nelson Piquet, Jr. in 4th.
Piquet had been looking forward to racing in Vegas because of the short break between rounds; instead of the normal weekend race, the final round festivals took take place in the middle of the week. Tuesday would consist of practice, seeding, and one heat race, while the Wednesday schedule included heats, semifinals, and the final race of the season.
On Wednesday, Piquet pulled in to his semifinal heat ready to dominate. When the green lights were shown, his car stalled and he was unable to get under power to compete in the session.
After being forced into the LCQ (Last Chance Qualifier), Piquet’s team was working frantically to correctly the problem with the car. Unfortunately, they discovered that the gearbox problem couldn't be repaired in time for the race, knocking the HAUS-sponsored SH Racing RallyCross team out of the race.
The 2014 maiden season for the HAUS Personal Vaporizer team had its ups and downs. At his high point, Piquet, Jr. led the pack by 40 points, and he and the team are looking forward to starting the next season in just a few months. They end the 2014 season 4th in points, just 75 points below 2014 Champion Joni Wilman.
