Making his 145th Verizon IndyCar start this weekend at the 2015 Honda Indy 200, four-time Series champ Sebastien Bourdais kept his sixth-place positon in the championship standings, earning 13 points on Sunday.
Starting P3 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, the KVSH Racing driver held the number two spot until the second caution on laps 21-25 that kept him at the back of the pack until the end of the race where he finished 17th, despite efforts moving in the top-10 during the 90-lap oval circuit.
We did what we had to do early on. We were saving fuel then as usual the guys in the back pitted early and started exposing us. So we started to run quick and as soon as we turned the wick up a yellow came out.
“Obviously a very disappointing day,” said Bourdais. “We did what we had to do early on. We were saving fuel then as usual the guys in the back pitted early and started exposing us. So we started to run quick and as soon as we turned the wick up a yellow came out. We pitted and cycled to the back. It’s disappointing because the car was good and the KVSH Racing team executed all weekend. We will go on to Pocono and see what we can do.”
Bourdais is only 28 points behind Team Penske competitors Helio Castroneves and Will Power, respectively, and has a solid chance to win the 2015 Verizon IndyCar Series championship with 379 points and two races left in the season.
Team Mistic Racing’s Bourdais has earned eight top-10 finishes this year, with four top-5 showings and two wins coming in Milwaukee and Detroit. He’ll be racing again in round 15 at the ABC Supply 500 at Pocono Raceway on August 23. Worth double points, the last race of the season will be held on August 30 at the GoPro Grand Prix of Sonoma.
