Finishing this weekend’s doubleheader by winning two heats and placing second in two semi-final contests, SH Racing Rallycross’ Nelson Piquet Jr. is now focused on Barbados with only three races left of the 2015 Red Bull GRC (Global Rallycross) season.
The Port of Los Angeles was the site of rounds 8 and 9 of this year’s series that was filled with lots of racing action and an impressive performance by Scott Speed winning both finals. Piquet Jr. qualified in the top half of the grid both days, while contact in race 1 and a DSQ in race 2 still left the 2015 Formula E champion with top-10 finishes.
“Yesterday was a good day and a really hard spot for the final on the outside of a three-wide grid,” said Piquet Jr. before Sunday’s race. “Ended up getting hit on the first corner and damaged our car so from that point we just had to get as many points as possible. Right now it’s about us getting ready for the next three races of the season.”
Nelson’s most recent of three podiums this year came last month in Washington, D.C., when he won the main event, his first GRC career victory. He also earned two other P3 podiums at the Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, N.C. and in May during the series opener in Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
This is the second straight year the HAUS™ Personal Vaporizer by Mistic® is serving as the sponsor of SH Racing Rallycross’ No. 07 Ford Fiesta ST.
Still competing for the series’ championship title, Nelson will be racing again at Bushy Park Barbados on October 3-4 during the season’s last doubleheader. The final race of the series will be held November 4 in Las Vegas.
