The Las Vegas Strip was the site of Wednesday night’s season finale of the 2015 Red Bull GRC (Global Rallycross) Series as Team HAUS driver Nelson Piquet Jr. took fourth overall in the driver championship.
Starting the main event in row 2 after qualifying P3 and finishing all his heats in the top 3, Piquet was forced into the wall by contact in the first lap. Shortly thereafter, 2015 Formula E champion battled back to finish sixth, tacking on another 25 points to his total for the year.
After a P3 finish last month in Barbados, Piquet was tied for third in points with Sebastian Eriksson of the No. 93 car going into the last race of the season. Eriksson’s second place finish in the main event gave him the edge over Piquet in the driver standings, where he finished second overall behind 2015 champion Scott Speed and ahead of Tanner Foust.
Piquet secured four top-3 finishes this year, including his first GRC win in Washington, D.C. His first podium of 2015 came in the series opener in Ft. Lauderdale, where he finished third, followed by another P3 finish in round 4 at the Marine Corps Air Station New River in Jacksonville, N.C. Piquet recently finished third in race 2 during the season’s last doubleheader held at Bushy Park Barbados.
This is the second season that the HAUS™ Personal Vaporizer by Mistic has sponsored the No. 07 SH Rallycross Ford Fiesta ST. Piquet finished last year’s season fourth overall and secured 4 podiums and 7 heat wins. Mistic® E-Cigs is an independent manufacturer of high-quality vapor products.
