Even though vaping may be a common, everyday activity for you and your friends, that doesn’t necessarily mean it is for others and sometimes vaping in public becomes challenging. To avoid potential arguments or legal issues, maintaining a high level of vape etiquette is key.
First and foremost, if you are going to be vaping in public it’s imperative to understand the local laws, especially if you’re in a public space (e.g. walking on the street or in a park). Google is your friend, and most local laws surrounding vaping can be found in a matter of minutes.
Secondly, even if you are in public that doesn’t mean you’re technically in a public space – malls, sporting venues, movie theaters and other places are public however they’re privately owned and can therefore enforce their own rules. If an outdoor, family-oriented mall has signs saying no vaping and is located within a city that allows vaping in public, that doesn’t give you a pass. No vaping means no vaping.
Sometimes, the rules of an establishment or the preferences of those around you can be unclear, so it’s always best to ask. Many people view vaping the same way they view combustible cigarette smoking, so this could be a great opportunity to educate the public on the differences- just make sure you have your facts straight!
The cardinal rule is to treat others as you wish to be treated, which is just as true in the world of vaping as it is anywhere else. You may not want to relax outside with a person puffing on a cigar 5 feet from you. Basically, you get the point.
